Carol is back!
Whenever Carol is around the shit hits the fan. It doesn’t take very long before we are having our first argument. Well one sided, more like me telling her off.
Carol is as passive aggressive as it gets. Always passing snide remarks which go over the head of her darling son, my husband , a true mamas boy. Lets call him MB from now on. And in case you didn’t pick up on it Carol is my mother in law.
Well she is back on her long visit of the year, driving me nuts. The visits have gotten longer and more annoying ever since she got her one and only grandchild. She is forever trying to prove she is mother of the year. She has a huge inferiority complex which is pretty obvious to anyone who meets her.
Anyway what’s her latest thing she has done to annoy me. Well I am 4 months pregnant in no mood to take anyone’s shit. When she’s around she has to contradict everything I say to my DS. When I am trying to discipline him she has to swoop in to be grandmother of the year giving in to his every tantrum. Of course husband has to stand by her. Verbally he agrees with me but it doesn’t feel like it when he’s doing nothing to fix the tension at home.
So yesterday I went to pick up DS from daycare. Let me preface this by saying he’s throwing tantrums like there is no tomorrow. He of course wants to play around outside the school but within the gates for a little while which I let him do. The minute we leave the gate the tantrums starts, he sits down on the ground refusing to walk. Another dad is right there leaving with his daughter at the same time. I tell her leave him and keep walking. Nope Carol stands her ground like she never heard me. I said he wants me to carry him, just keep walking. Nope she doesn’t budge, his best friend, his protector. I then have to walk back, push her along while telling her I am telling you to walk. All this conversation in earshot of the other dad who is feeling embarrassed. DS immediately came running as soon as I moved her.
All these tantrums because he knows he has an ally now. He doesn’t have to listen to mummy anymore, Carol is always there to support his bad behavior.
I’ve had it with this woman. I came home started cooking but my blood pressure was through the roof. I couldn’t wait for MB to come home. I let her have it, I told her I was really angry with what she did. She couldn’t even make eye contact with me while I was talking to her which pissed me off even more which I also let her know. The minute I went back to the kitchen Carol and Grandpa(GP) go to the their room where they have been hiding since yesterday.
Good for me, problem solved. Everyone’s still tense. I will take this victory for now.
